The ‘supla’ shot, a paddle to fine leg off full-length deliveries even against fast bowlers, was made famous by AB de Villiers and has been taken to an all new level by Suryakumar Yadav‘s big-hitting skills; and the Mumbai Indians’ (MI) batsman has no reservations in passing on the skill to his MI teammates.

In a video posted by MI on social media, Surya could be seen teaching the ‘supla’ shot to South African batter Dewald Brevis during a training session at the Wankhede Stadium ahead of the team’s Indian Premier League match against Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday.

“Out of 10 times, 3 times you will connect, seven times you will not,” Surya could be heard telling Brevis while standing beside the net where the 21-year-old youngster was trying to hone his skills.

Surya, who has been included in India’s T20 World Cup squad, hasn’t exactly set the IPL on fire this season. In 7 matches, he has scored 176 runs, including two fifties, at an impressive strike rate of 170.87.
Five-time champions MI have had a season to forget, standing at the exit door after just three wins in 10 matches.
