Shillong, Jan 31: NPP leader and cabinet minister Rakkam A Sangma on Tuesday alleged that the opposition Congress is becoming “very insignificant” in the Garo Hills region.

Speaking to reporters, Rakkam congratulated Saleng A Sangma, for securing the ticket to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Rakkam added that he doesn’t know how far Saleng can generate a wave in a very short time.

While extending his best wishes, Rakkam said, whether victory or defeat, it could be a distinct matter. And that it may be a dream for Saleng, but nobody should be underestimated, as an election is an election.

The Minister went on to say that in the previous month, he and Saleng were talking about elections, and Saleng had mentioned that he would not contest.

However, expressing uncertainty about Saleng’s change of decision, he stated that Saleng is fortunate to have received the ticket to contest, and he wishes him the best.

The candidatures of Saleng and Vincent H Pala were recently approved by the screening committee constituted by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in Guwahati on Monday.
