Ampati, May 3: MePDCL Vigilance team from South West Garo Hills last night conducted a surprise inspection and disconnection drive on electricity theft in Mondolpara, Nandichar, Modokpara, Babupara, Kulupara, Mathergaon, Geghapara, Paulpara and adjoining area at Mahendraganj which is 27kms from the district headquarter Ampati.

The SWGH police also assisted the MePDCL Team’s surprise inspection and drive, which concluded peacefully.

Shockingly, the vigilance team detected nine cases of power theft in the area. In one particularly interesting case, a battery-operated vehicle, commonly known as an EV rickshaw plying in the plain belt area, was found illegally charging its batteries through an unauthorized electricity connection.

MePDCL officials have warned that strict action will be taken against those found guilty of power theft, a punishable offense under the Electricity Act.
