Shillong, March 28: The Dorbar Shnong of Mawlai Syllaikariah decided on Thursday to boycott the upcoming Lok Sabha election due to the government longstanding disregard for the grievances faced by the Dorbar Shnong as a whole.
The decision to boycott the MP election was made by the Executive Committee (EC) of the Dorbar Shnong of Mawlai Syllaikariah after the government failed to take action to repair damages caused by the PHE department on public roads within the Dorbar.
According to the Rangbah Shnong (Headman), C Shullai, the PHE department damaged public roads and footpaths while installing Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) pipelines since 2022, and despite repeated complaints to the concerned authorities, no repairs have been made.
Shullai explained that prior to the installation of JNNURM pipelines in 2022, the Dorbar Shnong had renovated many roads and footpaths to enhance the locality’s appearance, using funds solely from the Dorbar Shnong for the benefit of the local community.

As a result, the Executive Committee of the Dorbar Shnong has decided not to participate in the upcoming Lok Sabha election scheduled for April 19 and has urged local residents of Mawlai Syllailariah to join them in boycotting the election.
