Guwahati, April 22: Director General Border Roads (DGBR) Lt Gen Raghu Srinivasan, VSM, visited Project Brahmank in Arunachal Pradesh during his four days visit from 18 April to 21 April 2024. He inspected the works on strategic Kaying – Tato – Menchukha axis under the area of responsibility of HQ 44 Border Roads the roads. During the visit, DGBR was accompanied by Chief Engineer (CE) Project Brahmank AK Mishra, VSM and Commander 44 Border Road Task Force (BRTF), Col BPS Tomar. The visit encompassed review of key projects, interaction with troops, labours and highlighting the Border Roads Organization’s (BRO) commitment in strengthening the region’s connectivity and socio-economic development.

DGBR lauded the efforts of 92 Road Construction Company (RCC) indevelopment of Aalo-Kaying road as ‘Zero Fatality Corridor’. DGBR inspected the construction works of Helipad at Kaying and upgradation works of Kaying-Tato Road to NHDL specifications. DGBR appreciated the pace of works undertaken under the inclement weather and remote terrains. He also appreciated the use of precast drains and culverts on Kaying – Tato Roadand stressed that there is urgent need to upgrade and to adopt better technologies and materials in the work undertaken by the BRO to ensure timely completion of strategic road infrastructure.

CE Project Brahmank briefed DGBR on the alignment of proposed Bille- Migging road being part of prestigious NH 913 (Frontier Highway) project. DGBR emphasized the importance of this mega road project that will not only boost development of the Arunachal Pradesh but will also boost defense preparedness of the nation and BROs commitment to complete this stretch in time bound banner.

The DGBR inspected the ongoing works on Tato-Menchukha Road and directed to expedite the pace of construction to complete the works within the stipulated time while ensuring the highest quality standards. DGBR also reviewed the progress of 35 mtr span Shuku Sokang Bridge on Tato-Menchukha Road which will enhance the load capacity of the road for faster induction of strategic assets to the LAC and directed for expeditious completion.

DGBR interacted with Shri P D Sona, Hon’Ble Speaker, Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly (APLA) and briefed him on the ongoing infrastructure development being undertaken by BRO. The Hon’ble Speaker, APLA raised concerns over slow progress of works by the EPC Contractors to which DGBR assured and iterated the commitment of BRO to take all remedial measures to expedite the progress and traffic worthiness of the road.

He interacted with the BRO personnel at all work sites and directed them to work in mission mode for best utilization of the working season ahead.Before his departure to Pasighat on 21 Apr 24, the DGBR lauded the efforts of Project Brahmank in development of infrastructure and in providing connectivity to the far-flung areas of Arunachal Pradesh and urged to maintain the same spirit and motivation in connecting the remotest corners of the country to the mainstream.

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is a leading infrastructure development agency under the Ministry of Defence (MOD) in India. Established in 1960, its primary role is to develop and maintain road networks in the border areas of the country. The BRO has been instrumental in constructing and maintaining roads, bridges, and tunnels in some of the most challenging terrains, including high-altitude areas and remote regions.
