Williamnagar, May 2: Congress working president and former minister Deborah C Marak, who earlier represented Williamnagar, has refuted the allegations levelled by Meghalaya PHE minister Marcuise Marak that she undertook work projects for development of the constituency and failed to deliver.

The war of words between the two rivals from Williamnagar erupted shortly after polling for Tura Lok Sabha seat took place, last month, and Deborah had critized the NPP saying that people of Garo Hills have turned their back on the Conrad K Sangma government for its alleged failure to deliver on its promises of development.

Marcuise Marak responded to the charge by taking on Deborah Marak, even going to the extend of saying that she was a beneficiary of government projects in Williamnagar itself which were left incomplete.

On Thursday, Deborah Marak returned fire terming the PHE minister as “irresponsible” and “short sighted” and said his accusations were devoid of any truth.

“The projects initiated for Williamnagar town through the World Bank are being carried out by ATW India Private Limited Company. Deborah marak is not doing any of these projects,” she said.

“The company undertaking the projects mentioned by Marcuise Marak are doing the project themselves. They have taken our places on rent and also hired some of our machinery for their works. Where from is he ( Marcuise) getting the notion that the project belongs to me?” Asked Deborah.

“For someone senior in the government and a cabinet minister, surely he should know who has got the project and how it is being implemented. Merely blaming others without fact checking shows his immaturity as a leader and a cabinet minister of the state. It also shows that he doesn’t know what is going on in his own constituency that elected him for a second term,” taunted the Congress leader.
