JAMMU: Police have identified a Lashkar-e-Taiba operative as one of the two terrorists who killed a Territorial Army soldier’s brother at his home in Thanamandi in J&K’s Rajouri on Monday night. They announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh for information leading to the arrest of both terrorists.
“Credible evidence identifies one of the two killers as a foreign terrorist code-named Abu Hamza. He has been involved in many terror activities. The deceased Mohammad Razaq’s brother, TA soldier Mohammad Tahir Choudhary, was the terrorists’ target, but he dodged their bullets,” police said.
Police issued posters with Hamza’s photo on Tuesday evening.
Sources said Razak (40), appointed in J&K govt’s social welfare department on compassionate grounds after terrorists killed his father 19 years ago in the same village, suffered critical bullet wounds and died while being rushed to a nearby hospital.
Police have rounded up 67 suspects for questioning in the case.
The attack, reported to be aimed at disrupting the poll in Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat on May 7, prompted a joint operation by police and Army to catch the killers. Jammu zone ADGP visited Rajouri to assess security measures.
This is the third terrorist attack on civilians in J&K this election season. On April 17, a 35-year-old roadside food vendor from Bihar was shot dead in Anantnag, while a tourist taxi driver from New Delhi suffered bullet wounds in Shopian district on April 8.
