NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court criticised the Uttarakhand State Licensing Authority on Tuesday for not taking action in the case of misleading advertisements related to Patanjali Ayurved Limited.
Justice Hima Kohli and Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah’s bench expressed dissatisfaction with the explanation provided by the body, noting that it seemed the licensing authority only acted in compliance with the law after the Supreme Court’s order on April 10.
“Be honest to the court if you want sympathy and compassion…,” the bench observed.
The apex court expressed its primary concern about whether the licensing authority acted in accordance with the law in this case.
Meanwhile, Patanjali Ayurveda founders Baba Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishan, who are facing contempt on plea of Indian Medical Association, allege that IMA president in his interview made contemptuous remarks and sought permission from the SC to contempt application against him. The court asked the head of IMA to be ready for consequences.
IMA president R V Asokan allegedly said in interview that it is unfortunate that the SC criticised IMA and also the practices of private doctors and the’vague and generalised statements’ have demoralised private doctors.
The bench has now scheduled the case to be heard on May 14.
