THE UTTAR Pradesh Madrasa Board chairman on Wednesday said that officials of the state
education department are conducting inspections of madrasas, a move he termed as “against the rules.”
In a statement, the Board chairman Iftikhar Ahmed Javed said, “In 1995, after the formation of the minority welfare department, the functioning of the madrasas was transferred from the education department to the minority welfare department. After that, the Madrasa Act was formulated in 2004, and then the rules and regulations for madrasas were formed in 2016.

They say that the right to inspect a madrasa is with the district minority welfare officer or an official from the board. It has come to my notice that
officials from other departments, specifically the education department, are inspecting madrasas and issuing notices. This is against the rules.”

“They have served notices on 12 madrasas in Muzaffarnagar. They have also done the same in Shamli, Amethi and some other districts. These surveys are being done by block education officers,” said the chairman.
He said the Board would take up the matter with the state government. “They are issuing notices saying that it doesn’t have accreditation when it is beyond their jurisdiction,” said Javed.
