Guwahati, May 6: As the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather warnings of heavy rain and thunderstorms in Northeast India. Considering the potential inclement weather, Assam government has issued Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to all District Collectors (DCs) and District Electoral Officers (DEOs) to safeguard voter comfort and safety during the election process on May 7.

According to the directive the measures are designed to provide adequate protection from rain and harsh sunlight, ensuring a comfortable voting experience for citizens across the state. Key SOPs include providing adequate shade and shelter, utilizing long verandahs in schools for queue lines and, if necessary, installing tents, or other temporary structures to shield voters from rain and sunlight. Ensuring proper drainage, clearing potential drainage issues around polling stations to prevent waterlogging, maintaining safe and dry conditions for voters.
