Following Lee Sun-kyun’s untimely demise is December last year, two of the actor’s unreleased projects have caused quite a dilemma among distributors. The two projects are Project Silence and The Land of Happiness.
While there were reports that the two films would be released in the summer of 2024, that doesn’t seem to be the case. CJ ENM, the distributor of Project Silence, stated, “The release timing is still undetermined. It’s under ongoing discussion.” Similarly, the distributor of The Land of Happiness mentioned, “We are considering the second half of the year for release, possibly in August,” without confirming a release date.
With distributors having faced numerous warehouse films during the pandemic, they no longer wanting to stash away their productions out of fear that the footage and subject matter will become outdated. So, the future of Lee Sun-kyun’s unreleased projects remain uncertain.

Project Silence is a film that revolves around a group of people who struggle to survive an unexpected threat after they get trapped in a collapsing bridge amidst a thick fog. Lee Sun-kyun played the role of a presidential aide who gets stranded on the bridge while seeing off his daughter at the airport. The film, which was screened at the 76th Cannes Film Festival in May 2023, received mixed reviews. Many considered it a cliché and called out the project out for its lack of depth.
Meanwhile, The Land of Happiness follows a soldier who gets entangled in an event that shakes up modern day Korea and a lawyer who fights to save him. Sun-kyun took on the role of the soldier in the film.
