QS President attributes India’s success in the QS World University Rankings to the National Education Policy. Additionally, India holds the second-highest number of featured universities in Asia according to the QS Subject Rankings.

New Delhi: The President of QS University Rankings has recently praised India for achieving the highest performance improvement among all G20 nations in the latest QS World University Rankings by Subject published on April 10, 2024. According to the ranking, Indian universities have seen a 14 per cent increase in their average ranking compared to last year.
India now ranks 44 out of the 55 QS Subject Rankings. Exceptional performances are evident in subjects such as Computer Science, Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Business Studies, and Physics. The Institutes of Eminence (IoE) have played a significant role, contributing 47 of the 69 Indian university positions within the top 100 across various subject rankings.
In the QS Subject Rankings for universities in Asia, India now holds the second-highest number of featured universities after China.
In his official LinkedIn account, Nunzio Quacquarelli, President of QS Quacquarelli Symonds, posted, “India’s HE progress on the global stage has undoubtedly been aided by visionary policies such as the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, spearheaded by Prime Minister Modi. I had the honour of meeting the Prime Minister to discuss global higher education trends. During our engaging conversation, it was evident that PM Modi has a passionate commitment to revolutionise Indian education, reflected in the ambitious targets within the NEP”
“Our latest Subject Rankings show that these targets are beginning to manifest in the significant presence and enhanced performance of Indian universities: Our analysis covered over 1,500+ universities in 96 countries, showcasing excellence in 55 academic subjects and five faculty areas”, he further added.
India’s research output has been rapidly growing, positioning it as one of the world’s top research hubs. From 2017 to 2022, India experienced a surge of 54 per cent in research output, earning it the title of the fourth-largest producer of research worldwide.
