New Delhi: Indian students abroad are choosing Canada for jobs as it is easier to work in temporary status and acquire permanent residence in Canada. During study, students can work part-time and full-time upto three years post graduation. Meanwhile, the students are avoiding the United States of America as it is difficult to get a H-1B visa or permanent residence in the USA, as per the National Foundation for American Policy (NFAP) report.
The report comes months after Canada limited the intake of international students for two years. The new visa policy will only allow around 3 lakh international students to get the study permit. Meanwhile, the student permit does not affect students in master’s degree and PhD programmes as per January 2024 admission data.
Why are international students choosing Canada?
As per NFAP, the international students can get permanent residence in few years, while in the US, there are restrictions to get employment-based green cards. Canada also favoured high-skilled professionals through the Express Entry programme in 2015 and Globals Skill Strategy programme in 2017. Through these programmes the country attracts top foreign talent and encourages foreign investment in Canada.
