Williamnagar, Apr 28: Meghalaya’s PHE Minister Marcuise N Marak has expressed strong reservation on the remark against (L) Purno Agitok Sangma and his family by Congress leader Deborah C Marak. The remark on Purno by Deborah has been refuted by Marcuise, who called her statement as ‘immature’ and ‘uncalled for’.
Speaking to Hub News, Marcuise Marak said, “Her (Deborah) remark on P.A. Sangma and the NPP is uncalled for. It has deeply saddened me and many in Garo Hills. She used unparliamentary word against our leader, whose contribution to the people and the State is unimaginable. (L) P.A. Sangma has given identity to the A’chik community. He (Purno) was a tall leader of this nation, served as Union Minister and Speaker of the Lok Sabha. Her remarks on P.A. Sangma only show her desperation”.
Marcuise also said that Deborah as a former minister clearly understands P.A. Sangma’s stature as a politician. “Deborah has held the post of Deputy Chief Minister, and her remark against P.A. Sangma is immature. How can she forget the history and the contribution of P.A. Sangma to not just Meghalaya but to the entire nation”.
“P.A. Sangma gave identity to the A’chik and the tribals of this nation”, he added.
He also went on to highlight the significant contributions of Purno Sangma during his tenure as union minister in several ministries and as Speaker of the Lok Sabha. “We accept genuine criticism as a political party but Deborah’s remark and opinion only reflect her poor mindset and opposition”, he added.
On allegation on the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), Marcuise N. Marak clarified that the scheme is a project of the Government of India, with the Government of Meghalaya contributing 10% towards its implementation. He emphasized that the JJM is transparent, with stringent monitoring by the government of India. He challenged Deborah to specify any part of the JJM which involves a scam. He also highlighted that the implementation of the scheme has been a success with government of India allotting additional funding for proper implementation.
On Deborah’s accusation of the Chief Minister stealing money from Meghalaya, Marcuise refuted the allegation and said, her remark is baseless and holds no iota of truth. “I fail to understand on what basis she is making such allegation without any evidence”.
He also advised Deborah to apply her wisdom before make false allegation and accusation on the Chief Minister and the government. “We are committed to transparency and accountability”, he added.
Marcuise also said that she (her family associate) was given project for the town improvement of Williamnagar and construction of road to Loyola School, which has not been completed. “If she is genuinely concerned about the welfare of the people and the community, then why is she not fulfilling her responsibilities effectively? The progress of the work is unsatisfactory.”
