NEW DELHI: Former Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren moved the Supreme Court on Wednesday, claiming that the high court has not yet delivered its judgment on his petition challenging his arrest by the enforcement directorate in a money laundering case.
Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, representing Soren, submitted that although the verdict was reserved in February end and the order is not yet delivered, thus Soren would remain in jail and election will be over.
A bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta was hearing the matter.
Soren was taken into custody on January 31 in the case following his resignation as the Jharkhand chief minister. State transport minister, Champai Soren, was appointed as his successor.
“The ED is probing the alleged “huge amounts of proceeds of crime generated by manipulation of official records by showing dummy sellers and purchasers in the guise of forged/bogus documents to acquire huge parcels of land having value in crores”.”
Prior to his arrest, Soren was interrogated by the Enforcement Directorate for seven hours in connection with the case.
