NEW DELHI: BJP on Monday demanded the resignation of Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah over the murder of Neha Hiremath in Hubbali and accused him of appeasement politics at the behest of the Congress brass.
“You should resign from the post of CM. It seems the pressure to appease, which has been dictated to you by Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, has made you forget the oath taken under the Constitution.
Congress talks about ‘nyay’, I want to ask will this victim’s family get ‘nyay’? Before the investigation is complete, the CM says this is not a case of love jihad. According to the CM, this is not even a case where law and order has completely failed,” BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia said at a press conference.
Referring to Hiremath’s murder, Bhatia said the whole nation had come together to support her family’s quest for justice. He said her father, a Congress corporator, has publicly declared his loss of faith in the party’s Karnataka unit, citing their “focus on superficial politics”.
“This tragic event is a stark example of ‘jungle raj’, signalling a breakdown in law and order. Concerns are growing as chief minister Siddaramaiah seems indifferent to the worsening crisis,” Bhatia said.
He referred to an incident in Karnataka where a man was assaulted for playing Hanuman Chalisa in his shop, and said this demonstrated the collapse of law and order in the state.
