Guwahati, Feb 4: Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled infrastructure projects worth Rs 11,600 crore in Assam on Sunday.

Following the inauguration of projects in Assam, the Prime Minister expressed confidence that these initiatives would enhance connectivity, not only within the Northeast region but also across the broader South Asian landscape.

He said, “Through the blessings of Maa Kamakhya, I got this opportunity again to unveil various development projects in Assam. A little while ago, infrastructure projects worth Rs 11,600 crore were unveiled. These projects will help in improving the connectivity of this region to Southeast Asia.”

In his address, he emphasised the surge in tourist visits to the Northeast, underscored the importance of respecting cultural heritage, and praised the efforts of Assam’s youth. The Prime Minister also acknowledged the growth in medical infrastructure, including the increase in medical colleges.

Here is what PM Modi said in his address:

# Record number of tourists visited Northeast in last 10 years.

# No country can ever progress by erasing its past, but the situation has changed in the last 10 years.

# Those in power after independence couldn’t understand the significance of places of worship; they were ashamed of their own culture.

# Those who were in power for years following independence had failed to understand the importance of our holy places. For political gains, they made it a trend to be ashamed of our own culture and our past.

# More than 7000 youth of Assam have left their weapons and taken a Sankalp to work for the progress of the country. In a lot of regions, AFSPA has been removed. A country cannot progress with a small target.”

# Before the BJP government in Assam, there were only 6 medical colleges, whereas today there are 12 medical colleges. Assam is today becoming a major centre for cancer treatment in the Northeast.”

# “Our pilgrimages, our temples, our places of faith—these are not just places to visit. These are indelible signs of our civilisation’s journey over thousands of years. This is a testimony to how India stood firm in the face of every crisis.”

PM Modi embarked on a two-day trip to Guwahati, reaching the city on Saturday.
