Shillong, Jan 19: The state government on Friday decided to repeal the Meghalaya Civil Task Force Act, 1974.

Speaking to reporters after the cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said the Meghalaya Civil Task Force Act was made in 1974.

“Obviously because the change in the systems and the fact that the need at that point in time when this Meghalaya Civil Task Force was set up were different and now in today’s world the task force is almost redundant wherein all the concerned employees over there (all) necessary formalities have been completed and they are all either retired or they have been given a golden handshake,” he said.

“Therefore, the Act itself is actually redundant and hence to ensure that there is no further complications the state cabinet today has decided that it will be repealed and there were three posts that were there in that and this will be absorbed within the department in different branch and so this particular repeal act will be brought in the next Assembly session,” he informed.
