Hamas has released a chilling video featuring three Israeli hostages, including Noa Argamani, a 26-year-old who was abducted during a rave. The video ominously states, “Tomorrow we will inform you of their Fate.”
In the footage, a woman and two men are seen speaking in Hebrew, urging Israeli officials to take action for their safe repatriation. The exact date of the video’s recording remains uncertain.
First glimpse since kidnapping
Argamani, along with Yossi Sharabi, 53, and Itai Svirsky, 38, were seen for the first time since their abduction on October 7.The exact timing of the video’s filming remains unclear. In a pattern familiar with Hamas’ hostage videos, the captives introduce themselves and implore the Israeli government for their safe return, concluding with a message to the Israeli people, “Your Government is Lying.”
Uncertain conditions and previous claims
The video does not provide details about the hostages’ current conditions. They were among approximately 250 people kidnapped during a brutal terrorist attack on October 7. This release follows Hamas’ claim of losing contact with many hostages after Israeli bombardments in Gaza, raising fears about their safety.
Noa Argamani: The face of the crisis
Argamani, captured in one of the first videos of the attack, was seen pleading, “Don’t kill me!” as she was forcibly taken on a motorcycle. The footage, showing her reaching out to her boyfriend, Avinatan Or, who was also abducted, went viral, symbolizing the horror of the Supernova rave attack.
A mother’s plea amid terminal illness
Liora Argamani, Noa’s mother, who is battling terminal brain cancer, has made international appeals, including to Israel and China, for her daughter’s release. She also reached out to President Biden, expressing her desperate wish to embrace her daughter one last time.
Other hostages’ plight
Yossi Sharabi and his brother Eli were kidnapped from their homes in Kibbutz Be’eri. Eli’s wife and daughters were among those tragically killed in the attack. Itai Svirsky, from Tel Aviv, was visiting his parents in Be’eri when he was captured; his parents were later found deceased.
Ongoing hostage crisis
With over 130 hostages still held in Gaza, Israel believes this includes the remains of around 25 Israeli citizens. The situation remains tense, with the international community closely monitoring developments.
Gaza war rages on 100th day
The Israel-Hamas war reached a grim milestone of 100 days on Sunday, with more civilian deaths in Gaza, and relatives of dozens of hostages still awaiting their freedom.
There were also casualties in the West Bank, and on the Israel-Lebanon border.
The conflict, sparked by Hamas militants unprecedented attacks on Israel on October, has created a humanitarian catastrophe for the 2.4 million people in Hamas-ruled Gaza, the United Nations and aid groups warn, and reduced much of the coastal strip to rubble.
The UN says roughly 85 percent of the territory’s population have been displaced, crowded into shelters and struggling to get food, water, fuel and medical care.
New phase of war
The Israeli military says it has shifted to a new phase of the war, focused on the southern end of the territory, where almost 2 million people are now sheltering in tents and other temporary accommodation, after the initial phase centred on clearing the northern end including Gaza City.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has brushed off calls for a ceasefire, saying Israel will keep going until it achieves complete victory over Hamas and recovers the 132 remaining hostages.
The military says, though, the next phase of the war will see months of more targeted operations against the movement’s leaders and positions.
